Emergency FAQ – What to Do in an Orthodontic Emergency?

Usually not.

A detached bracket rarely causes acute problems. Please call us so we can arrange a timely repair appointment.

Until then: avoid hard and sticky foods.

Try to gently bend the wire end down using the handle of a spoon.

Alternatively, protective wax can help.

If severe discomfort persists, we will arrange an appointment as soon as possible.

Please contact us—feel free to do so via Dental Monitoring as well. We will decide whether you should:

  • wear the previous aligner
  • continue with the next one
  • or need a replacement set.

A slight feeling of pressure in the first few days is normal.

If severe pain occurs or the brace does not fit properly, please contact us so we can adjust it.

Please do not.

Damaged braces can apply incorrect forces to the teeth. Bring the brace in for inspection and possible repair.

Yes, a loose retainer can cause teeth to shift.

Mild pressure pain after activations or aligner changes is normal.

If pain occurs suddenly or lasts longer, we should check the bite.

Please check:

  • is everything seated correctly?
  • is anything bent or broken?
  • is there any pain?

If unsure: send a photo by email or via the Dental Monitoring app, or call us.

We will tell you whether an appointment is necessary.

Often not. Many problems are not critical and can be resolved after the vacation.

Feel free to send us a photo if you are unsure.

A local visit is only necessary in cases of severe pain or open injuries.

No.

Discoloration, e.g. from curry, tea, or berries, is purely cosmetic and does not affect your treatment result.

Please contact us immediately.

Loose mini-implants do not pose an acute risk to treatment but should be secured or replaced promptly.

Usually yes: the cause is often insufficient cleaning.

Please brush more thoroughly, especially around the brackets.

If swelling or severe pain occurs, we are happy to check this promptly.

Only in a few situations is urgent action required:

  • severe pain that does not subside
  • open wounds caused by wires or brackets
  • allergic reactions
  • acute swelling or fever
  • accidents involving injury to teeth or soft tissue

In these cases, please call immediately.
